| Another Explosion? |

| | nervous | ] | Uh-oh. My whole street in Clear Lake was just awakened by a series of what sounded a whole lot like the one explosion in Seabrook last week. Again, in a bright blue sky. |

| Only two more chances to see LIFE IS HAPPY AND SAD, the new Daniel Johnston play! |
[Dec. 18th, 2009|03:02 pm] |
That's right, folks. Tonight, tomorrow and it's gone gone gone.
TONIGHT AFTER THE PLAY, we'll have a Q&A with David Thornberry, Daniel's best friend and the guy the tape-letter that makes up Act 1 was created for.
Also...we might–and I do mean might—have another very special guest attendee for the Q&A this evening.
TOMORROW AFTER THE PLAY there will be a number of rad local bands, including Young Mammals and Roky Moon and BOLT and many others, covering Dan's music.
This play is very special. Don't miss it.
All tickets are pay-what-you-can and are available at the Catastrophic Theatre's website. The shows are at DiverseWorks. Door at 7:30, show at 8:00. |

| best prices on booze? |
[Dec. 17th, 2009|07:03 pm] |
Ahoy Ninjas!
I am going to purchasing a full bar's worth of booze, mid-grade and top shelf stuff, for my wedding. I am under the assumption that Specs is the best place to buy booze in Houston, but I figured i'd ask if anyone knows of any Liquor Stores that might have better pricing than specs. Also since the wedding is on NY's Eve, good deals on champagne or any general recommendations would be appreciated. |

I'm trying to remember the name of a store - it's a fancy-schmancy home store with high end kitchen and bath stuff off I-10 - near Memorial mall, but on the other side of the freeway... I think it's near that Hobby Lobby? |

| Earliest Happy Hour? |
[Dec. 15th, 2009|11:34 am] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | stressed | ] | Some friends and I have nursing school finals this week, with our last on Thursday. About 10-20 people wanted to go celebrate afterwards at some sort of Happy Hour but our problem is our test ends at 12 and so we're looking for a place that starts early.
Any suggestions? Our school is in the Med Center so we're looking in the village area, thanks in advance! |

| Selling 2 tickets to A CHORUS LINE |
[Dec. 12th, 2009|11:35 pm] |
I purchased a pair of tickets to see A CHORUS LINE at the Houston Hobby Center for the 2pm matinee performance on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 as a Christmas gift for my parents. However, my mom just recently passed away and my dad really isn't into seeing this show without her.
These are the good $69 tickets. They are located in the Mezzanine, Row E, seats 4 and 5. I had to order them through Ticketmaster (the most soul-sucking ripoff corporation ever) and paid a whopping $184.81 to have these delivered to me in NYC, where I live. Got to love those special handling fees that they charge. I'm willing to let them go for $160. So if you, too, are contemplating using Ticketmaster to buy tickets, this will save you over $20.
I will be in the Houston area over the holidays and can deliver them to you in person, or I can mail them to you once I receive your payment. I'll even forward you the email receipt that I have to prove to you that I do actually own these tickets and that I'm not scamming you.
I saw the Broadway production that this touring show is based on and WOW, it's pretty gosh darn great.
Sorry if this isn't allowed, and feel free to delete it if that's the case. It's just really depressing me to see the suckers on my desk. And I'm a broke, theatre-loving grad student who doesn't want to see these go to waste.
Thanks. |

| Seabrook Explosion |
[Dec. 9th, 2009|09:18 am] |
There was an explosion in Seabrook about 25 minutes ago - I heard it when walking into my work (about 8:48), and there's a big plume of smoke. At least Fox 26 news is doing live info, and they're saying it's at Hwy 146 & Red Bluff Port Road, The American Acryl plant. Current instructions for those in the area are to shelter in place and close off any outside ventilation. Wind is taking most of the smoke over the bay, at least. |
